How to Tame a Spider in Rune Slayer (March 2025)

Welcome to our comprehensive guide on how to tame spiders in Rune Slayer! Riding a spider mount not only looks impressive but also provides combat advantages. This guide will walk you through the entire process from preparation to successfully becoming a spider rider.

Prerequisites

Before attempting to tame a spider, make sure you meet these requirements:

  • Level Recommendation: While there's no strict level requirement, we recommend being at least Level 20 to handle the enemies in the spider cave area.
  • Required Item: You'll need Mandrake Roots for the taming process (bring 5-7 to be safe).
  • Combat Readiness: Be prepared to fight spiders if your taming attempts fail.

How to Get Mandrake Roots

Mandrake Roots are essential for taming spiders. Here's how to obtain them:

  1. Travel to the farming fields in Wayshire.
  2. Look for Mandrake Roots sticking out of the ground.
  3. Pull them out (this will initiate a fight with the Mandrake).
  4. Defeat the Mandrake to collect the root.
  5. Collect at least 5-7 roots to ensure you have enough for multiple taming attempts.

For more information about Wayshire and other locations, check our Rune Slayer Beginners Guide.

Finding the Spider Cave

The Spider Cave is where you'll find tameable spiders. Follow these directions to reach it:

  1. From Wayshire, head north and slightly northeast until you reach Greatwood Forest.
  2. Once in Greatwood Forest, head east.
  3. You'll encounter a Cobra and a bird enemy along the way (defeat them if necessary).
  4. Continue east from the bird enemy to find the Spider Cave.
  5. You'll know you're in the right place when you see spider webs inside the cave.

Spider Taming Process

Now for the actual taming process:

  1. Find a Spider inside the cave.
  2. Hit the Spider once to engage it.
  3. Quickly open your inventory and use a Mandrake Root.
  4. A heart icon will appear above the Spider's head.
  5. Wait for the heart to finish growing:
    • If the Spider collapses to the ground, congratulations! You've successfully tamed it.
    • If the heart turns black, the taming attempt has failed. Defeat the Spider and try again with another one.

It may take several attempts before you successfully tame a Spider, so don't get discouraged if you fail a few times.
